I Can Haz MoCap Nowz???

I am proud to announce that I helped to successfully fund the Perception Neuron KickStarter Campaign! In a few short months I will be recieving my own personal WIRELESS Motion Capture system! I am SUPER EXCITED to receive my Neuron Suit! Now I won't have to rely solely on finding data on the net or trying to get permission from the studio I work for to use what we capture for my demo; YAAAARRRGGH!, the NDA be a harsh mistress!
I was able to purchase 30 sensors which means that I can have one full setup that includes the entire body and all the fingers or I could have three people in three suits made up of 10 sensors each. The configuration option is what really sold me on Perception Neuron, (and the price wasn't to shabby either)!

As far as previous experiences with MoCap suits go, I have worn and acted in a Lycra Suit for OptiTrack, an XSENS suit, and even a ShadowSuit. The most comfortable to act in was the Shadow Suit since it is worn over your clothes. The Shadow Suit also seemed to provided Motion Capture data that was similar to XSENS with slight less cleanup needed. The XSENS Suit however, allows for much more physical acting since the wires don't risk getting pulled or snagged unlike the Shadow Suit. The OptiTrack suit does not breathe well at all and I found it limiting to how long you could act in the suit before needing a break.

Here is an image I made that shows the visual difference between these suits. As you can see Perception Neuron is similar to the Shadow suit but has smaller sensors which are about the size of a coffee bean!

I will definitely provide an update once I get my greedy paws on my Perception Neuron Suit! Stay tuned!

  1. Hello Sir,

Can you please share which suit is better(Shadow, Perception Neuron or Xsens)? I don't have budget limit but all I wish is to have best quality.

    Thank you in advance.
