Mocap and Birthday Cake!

Just a few days in at Vitruvian Entertainment and I was assigned to the Mocap Stage for my first live shoot, and on my Birthday nonetheless!!!

I helped wire the Xsens suit, took notes which takes were good, and learned about capturing in MVN Studio.
Laura Waddell was our super-talented actress performing her rendition of: "I Wanna Be Loved By You" by Marilyn Monroe!

iAnimate Motion Capture Workshop 1 - The FUN-damentals!

While attending the Games Workshop I spoke with Ric Arroyo (Head of Game
Animation at iAnimate.net) about the next step I need to keep enhancing my body mechanics in my animations. Ric then detailed the brand new Motion Capture Workshop iAnimate was starting and it was a perfect fit for me!

Admittedly, I was hesitant about Motion Capture because I did not fully understand how powerful and what a fantastic resource it is to study motion!

My instructor is none other than Brent George who has worked on so many amazing projects such as: Batman: Arkham Origins, Far Cry 3 and Jame's Cameron's Avatar: The Game, just to name a few!

We have learned so many different aspects of Motion Capture from setting up Actors and Rigs, keyframe extractions and how to protect the performance!

I embrace Motion Capture as a fantastic tool and the next step in my evolution as a digital artist.

It has been an amazing workshop and I look forward to starting the Motion Capture Workshop 2 - Crafting a Performance!

Gun Draw - WIP 2

(This post is organized from most recent to oldest to show my shot progression.)

Update 4/1/13
Main blocking for key poses completed and technical constraint issues for the gun have been solved.
Next up, Rough Timing Pass!!!

Update 3/28/13

Added more weight shifts, recoil and I decided to add in firing the weapon!

Update 3/27/13
I noticed that the draw is too springy and needs to be eased in more as he aims at his off-screen target. Here's the correction I made:

This looks much better! The timing pass will push the ease in and outs of the aiming section.

3/27/13
This is my first pass of the animation cycle. I blocked the poses on 4's, timing pass is next. I did not originally consider this, but I think I want to add a bit more to the cycle by having the character fire off a few shot before putting the gun away!

Gun Draw - Work in Progress 01

Here's a quick update on my Steampunk gun draw animation cycle!

I gathered up and studied footage of professionals and non-pro's drawing a holstered gun, acted it out, shot video reference, and made my planning thumbnails sketches with key poses and breakdowns.

Today I began blocking out the shot with a game ready rig I found a while back on the web, I'm not sure who created it or where exactly I got it from, but I owe a big thank you to whoever made this sweet rig!

I should have all the poses blocked out by tonight as well as my first timing pass!
